Zotero Icon on Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, etc.

I would like to know if it is possible to see Zotero icon on more useful websites for research in the near future, such as Financial Times, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg? Thank you.

    someone would have to write translators. That's not terribly hard anymore

    but does require some willingness to engage with code. Otherwise probably not in the near future - I might (!) write an FT one, but I never read Bloomberg or WSJ so at least for me that's not interesting.

    I and I'm sure many other business and economics scholars would love those translators too, in particular for Wall Street Journal. As the largest newspaper in the US, by circulation, it seems like an obvious translator to make functional. While wsj.com does have a zotero icon now, it has not worked for me for several months, yet I see no reference to it in "Known Translator Issues". (I get "Could not save item. An error occurred while saving this item.")

    I don't know how logging in with a subscriber account affects the site structure and thus how the translator works - since that's not free, I at least can't test that out.

    edit: also, business schools have tons of money. Hire someone if you really want a translator ;-).

    You can try to install Readability's READ NOW add-on instead. Once you click "READ NOW", Zotero's translator icon will show up. Hope it helps.

    good point - Zotero's Readability translator won't give you perfect data, but usually gets the title right and often the author as well. It's not substitute for a full blown translator but it's a nice second best solution to have.
    (and I'd still be curious about what's not working for WSJ)

    It's not just for WSJ. Sometimes Zotero's translator doesn't work well on some websites, sometimes even for Reuters, Economist, and New York Times as well. When this problem happens, Readability's add-on becomes very useful.

    of course, I understand - it'd still be great if you could report translators that aren't working correctly.
    Especially on the NYT that should _never_ happen. But we're also trying to keep Reuters and the Economist stable and working.

    the good news for me is that i have the zotero icon for wall street journal articles.

    the bad news is that when i click on the icon, it only downloads the "free" version of the article. specifically, it only downloads the first two or so paragraphs & then has a "..." at the end. i'm a paid subscriber & can see the full article online.

    i can get the full article using the readability option, but the data is less accurate than when i use the wall street journal translator. so, i'd like to use the wsj translator if possible.

    any suggestions/advice?

    that's surprising - the translator just takes a snapshot of the page that's currently open on WSJ.
    Unfortunately I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this without paid access.

    just to be clear - i do have paid access in the sense that i'm logged in & have full access to wsj articles.

    my work around is to first save the article first using the zotero icon, which saves the abbreviated article but the correct data.

    i then right click on the page & choose "save zotero snapshot from current page", which saves the complete article but does not have the complete data.

    i finally move the snapshot of the complete article to the index entry with the complete data.

    btw, i should mention that i use the stand alone version of zotero & chrome as my browser.

    hmm - so the snapshot works correctly? I wonder what's wrong with the attached snapshot then - doesn't make any sense to me, but as I said, I don't know how to troubleshoot without access in this case - I don't think I know of anyone with a WSJ subscription.

    nothing new on WSJ, but there is a working Financial Times translator now. I don't have a pay-account for that either, so any reports on whether and how it works would be very welcome.

    WSJ has been updated - maybe the snapshots work now? At a minimum the translator should work better and also work for multiples and blogs on wsj.com
    There is also a Bloomberg translator now. Any problems with any of these, please post here.
