Upgrade StorageError in integrating new Word plug-in

I am using zotero 2.1.1 with firefox. I tried to install the new plug-in to integrate with Word, but it is not working. I keep getting the following message:
"Installation could not be completed because an error occurred. Please ensure that Microsoft Word is closed, and then restart Firefox"
I am using the latest version of firefox. I use Word 2004 for Mac.
I have updated all software on my computer and restarted a couple times. I have made sure that I've downloaded both add-ons required: python.ext and zotero word for mac integration 3.1.9. I also tried manually installing the file to the Word startup folder as i'd seen mentioned on this site. I've also checked my permission and have read&write permissions on all of office.
Still can't get it working, can you help?

SimonPythonExt is installed, but it's not loading properly for some reason. Try removing PythonExt in Tools->Add-ons->Extensios and reinstalling it.
