Updating document to new referencing style won't work

I was ready to change my document preferences to "Harvard - University of Sheffield - East Asian Studies" when a pop-up said "Your document must be permanently upgraded in order to work with Zotero 2.1 or later. It is recommended that you make a backup before proceeding. Are you sure you want to continue? "

So I made a backup and do a force quit of firefox and try again. Now, on the the third try, I see that my desired style is not working as it should. E.g, when I try to add a bibliography, it says, "Current bibliographic style does not define a bibliography. If you wish to add a bibliography, please choose another style."
Did something happen when I tried to "update" the document (as was suggested)? Anything else that might be wrong? This style was working fine a few days ago when I tested it.
  • Most commonly that error indicates a problem with the style and not the document - often a style that somehow got corrupted. First I'd try to switch to a different style and back. Then I'd try to manually re-install the style from the repository and try again. If that doesn't work, provide an error ID for an instance of that message popping up.

  • Thanks

    The report ID was: 1578368152

I tried manually uninstalling and re-installing the style a couple of times and got similar errors. I am not sure I can add more details but let me know if I can.

One thought is that I've been having some problems w/firefox lately (often becomes unresponsive and other error messages). Perhaps I need to try using Zotero with Chrome or Safari. Or maybe I need to download the 3.0 standalone version.
  • what happens if you use a different style - does that work?

If it does, you could also try "reset styles" from the advanced tab of the Zotero preferences - you'll need to re-install all but the default styles, but that shouldn't take long.

And to be clear - you're using the Harvard Sheffield style from the repository, yes?
