Ibid problems

I am using SBL. When I enter a citation to an article, followed with a manual footnote to an ancient source, then a citation of the first article again, it inserts ibid. The result is incorrect because:

E.g.:

1. Seaford, Euripides, 242-43.
2. Dio Cassius, 61.20.
3. Ibid., 53. [rather than, Seaford, Euripides, 53]

Is there a solution to this?

thanks.
  • No there isn't really. You can modify the style, working with near-note-distance:
    http://citationstyles.org/downloads/specification.html#note-distance

Otherwise, the only way would be to somehow use Zotero to insert an approximation of the classical source, so it knows there's something different in between (You could, e.g., insert the same citation for all classical sources, remove it from the bibliography using "edit bibliography" and edit it using "Show Editor" - clearly a hack, but should work.)
  • Thanks--I never thought of that.
