New Grad Student Seeking Zotero program advice (for taking notes)

Ive downloaded Zotero and would like to know what program people use to do general course notes and file them to be searchable with Zotero, if this is even possible? I use a mac.
  • Depends how long your notes are.
For short and medium length notes, Zotero's own notes will do.
    See this Prof. Hacker post:

For long notes you could just use text or html files (edited with your program of choice - text-edit will do, as would any word processor (Word, Pages, Libre Office) and saving as .html.

Zotero's note taking features are not as powerful as some dedicated note-taking software (especially wrt to sorting notes and cross-linking notes from within the note text), so you'll have to decide for yourself, depending on your needs and note-taking habits, if it's worth it to look at other software for course notes.
  • Also give Scrivener a test run ..
