Word and Openoffice plugins direct download

Why aren't there direct download links of *.oxt and whatever Word's extension is that let you just download and install the word processor extensions directly? Why do you have to go through Firefox?

I have way too many problems with firefox addons at my school computers, and it would be really nice if I could bypass that so I can install to Word directly.
  • Because the word processor plugins themselves do very little. Most of the code is in the Firefox extensions. If you can install the Zotero extension, you should be able to install the plugins.

Zotero Standalone comes with the plugins bundled.
  • What is Zotero Standalone?

I got the main Zotero plugin installed, I just can't install those secondary firefox extensions for word and openoffice support.

    Zotero standalone:

edit: see below - while this will get you the .oxt, it won't work.
[If you need a workaround, you can download the xpi (rather than installing it), rename the extension to .zip, unpack it and you'll find the .oxt in the folder "install" - no guarantees that will work, though.]
  • The .oxt won't do anything if the integration plugin isn't installed in Firefox.
