APA 6 Bibliography Order

I just switched over to zotero from EndNote and, while zotero seems to be a pretty good system, it is not putting my bibliography in the correct order which is quite a problem. I am using the APA 6 format with Word 2010, Firefox 8.0, and zotero 2.1.10. I have two examples in my bibliography list where the order is incorrect:

and:

In the latter case, there is a mix of sources (i.e., journal articles and a book chapter) but in the former case they are all journal articles. This problem does not appear to be specific to APA as a change in the output format does not correct the problem. Any advice that you have would be greatly appreciated as I do need to submit this paper fairly soon and I would also like to use zotero for my dissertation.
  • Could you please export the six items as Zotero RDF and post them to a public gist at github?

Instructions: Select the six references in Zotero, right-click --> Export Selected Items ---> Zotero RDF (no notes or attachments).
Open the file with a text editor (notepad) --> select all --> copy-->
paste the content into the window on
    gist.github.com
click "Create Public Gist" on the bottom of the screen and then post the URL here.

The style should do this correctly so this looks like a csl processor bug to me, but it'd be good to be able to replicate this problem to make sure.

As for submitting the paper soon - just fix it manually: remove Zotero field codes in a copy of the paper and switch the references in the bibliography.
  • Here's the URL: https://gist.github.com/1368815

I can definitely fix it manually this time around but it would sure be great to have the problem sorted before converting and adding to my dissertation :)
  • Thanks, I'll take a closer look later, but it looks like this works correctly in the 3.0 version, currently in beta and nearing release.
Just to make sure we're on the same page, this is correct, right?

  • Exactly that. The problem seems to occur at the second or third author position. The order that you have here is correct.
    Thanks!
  • I'm unable to replicate this. I have now tried this in 2.1.10 and regardless of whether I use the word processor plugin or if I export from Zotero, these always appear in the correct order.

Try re-installing the APA style from the repository and see if that fixes things.
  • Hmmm. Perplexing. I did try re-installing APA 6 and the references still come up out of order for me. I am using MS Word 2010. Any chance this could have to do with the interface with this particular program?
  • what happens when you create a bibliography and save it as RTF?
  • Looks like it is in the right order in the RTF.
  • huh - weird. Sorry, I don't have Word 2010, so I'll have to have you run through troubleshooting.
If you start a new document, just with these six items and then insert a bibliography - what then? With that we should at least know exactly where this problem occurs.
  • Have any of the items been edited manually with Show Editor (in the bibliography or the citation) through the word processor plugin?
