Citation numbers appear in reverse order

There seems to be a problem ordering citations with multiple sources for the citing-by-citation-number styles.

When multiple sources are used to add the citation, and all have never been used before, the citation numbers appear in reverse, as in (4,3,2,1). The refs also do not collapse into (1-4) although this is specified in the style csl file. This is the case for all the styles I could find that cite by citation number (National Library of Medicine, Nature, etc.). If the citations are separated into adjacent single-source cites, it works properly, as do multiple-source cites that have been used previously.

I am using the latest versions of Zotero and the Windows plugin for Open Office writer.

Thank you for the fantastic work on this program!
  • I experience the same as Prithason with the Word plugin. Is there any work-around for this problem? For paper submission it is really crucial to have references formatted as (1-4) rather than (4,3,2,1). What happens as well is (8,7,1,9,10) rather than (1,7-10). Thanks for any suggestions how to temporarily resolve this problem.

Overall I am happy to have left Endnote behind ... Zotero is a great piece of software.
  • I too am very keen for this problem to be fixed. I get the problem that some multiple references collapse, others do not, and this switches around when I press the refresh button. Unfortunately this is stopping me from seriously using Zotero, since not collapsing the references properly looks very unprofessional! Otherwise I really like Zotero and would love to use it more!
  • I would also like to have this unsightly problem corrected. I've spent too much time pressing the refresh button until I get (1-9) only to have it change on me to (7,3,8,4,6,1,5,2,9) resulting in many more refresh sessions.
  • This issue should have been resolved with Zotero 1.0.4. Make sure you are running the most up to date version of Zotero. If you haven't automatically been prompted to upgrade just re-download it from the homepage. If the problem persists with the most up to date version try resetting your translators and styles.
