can't install open office plug in for mac - error ref: 1988174668

Hallo!

I've been through all the trouble shooting stages but not joy. The error message on manual install is "could not create java implementation loader".

I'm running 10.6.8 on a macbook. The Openoffice version is 3.2.0. The Zotero version is 2.1.10. The plugin thing is Zotero OpenOffice.org Integration 3.5b1.

All brand spanking new. And I've checked - Java is installed on my mac.
The error ref if you can't see it is: 1988174668

Please can someone show me how to do it!?
Many thanks,
Tom

update to Ooo 3.3. (or better yet, switch to Libre Office - Open Office looks increasingly dead and LO increasingly vibrant).
  • Finally, many thanks. (Installing and learning another WP package though: too much hassle for the time being for me.)
  • (Libre Office is effectively the same as Ooo - they took the Ooo code and split off because Oracle was making Ooo development impossible - you won't really see the difference. The changes so far are 90% under the hood.)
  • Just to reiterate what adamsmith said : Libreoffice is effectively the same as Open Office AND it may very well solve your problem. At a training session I ran yesterday, we kept having students on macs running into problems installing the openoffic integration and despite throwing every possible solution I could think of at the problems, there was no way to get it running. Everything worked like a dream every time with Libre Office, once I started suggesting they install that instead.

In fact, I would be v interested in hearing if anyone else has had this experience - if this is general, the suggestion to move to Libreoffice should probably be included in documentation somewhere.
