Word 2008 plugin not responding on Mac OS X

After a lot of work, following the steps on the troubleshooting page, I can finally see the Zotero toolbar in Word. But nothing happens when I click on it. I've tried the steps listed on the website but still no response.

Any ideas?

I have a non-english Word, Firefox 3.6.11 and the following plug-ins
Zotero 2.0.9
PythonExt 2.6.2
Zotero MacWord Integration 3.0b3

  • There is no toolbar in Word 2008. Do you mean the script menu? What are you clicking on, exactly?
  • Interesting! Thanks for the link. I had somehow missed that and it now works:)

    Although I do see a toolbar :)

The "row of icons" shown in the link is what I see when I choose view ->toolbar ->Zotero Bibliographic Management. Although nothing happens when I click it.

Anyway, problem solved. Thanks a lot!
  • I'm not sure how you're seeing a toolbar in Word 2008 unless you, for example, tried to open a Zotero.dot file (which isn't used for Word 2008) directly.
  • Me neither! I don't think I tied to open a Zotero.dot file directly. On the other hand I tried so many things that I might have opened something without really meaning to;)
  • I can see the Zotero toolbar in Mac Word, but when I click on it nothing happens.
    I have Mac OS X - version 10.5.8 (honestly, I don't know if this is Word 2008?!)

    Help!
  • Yes, it is Word 2008! Now what?
  • melissa - start a new thread and provide information on all of your version numbers - zotero, wordplugin, OS, Firefox, and Word - you'll need to find out your Word version - there's got to be an "about" menu item somewhere.
Note that using the plugins with Firefox 4 and higher requires OS X 10.6 or higher, so if you're using FF 4+, no need to start a new thread - you'll need to downgrade FF or upgrade your OS.
  • Thank you...

    OK, so I should re-install Firefox 4?

    This is so frustrating :(.......
  • sorry, you need to take it a bit more slowly and read carefully.
    As I said:
"Note that using the plugins with Firefox 4 and higher..."

I.e. you need word integration plugins you'll need to use a FF version before 4 - I think 3.6.23 or so is the last one - or you need to upgrade your OS.

The same information is on the download page for the word processor plugins:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation_for_zotero_2.1
  • OK - here's a dumb question...

    How do I upgrade OS?
I went to "ABOUT THIS MAC"
Clicked on on "Software Update" - I updated everything on there.

    So, now what?

Yes, I already saw this link:
    http://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_installation_for_zotero_2.1

Which I thought I already installed?
  • Never mind.
I'll just download the FF 3.6.23 version & hopefully that will work.
  • Mac usually makes you pay for major OS upgrades.
