Item does not exist in your Zotero Database

Since I'm using Zotero on a new computer (latest Versions) it doesn't work anymore.
When I open an existing document, with Zotero citations and try to add a new citation it jumps to an existing citation saying: This item does no longer exist in your database (at least something like this, because I'm using it in German). Then I lead it to the correct item and it does the same with the next citation.
Even if I do that with all citations Zotero asks me again when I reopen the document the next time.

What I did is I saved the Zotero Library from the old computer as .rdf file and imported it on the new computer.

What exactly do I have to do?
  • .rdf is not a recommended procedure for transfer, as it breaks the links between the document and Zotero.

Here is the recommended procedure: http://www.zotero.org/support/kb/transferring_a_library
  • Ok I'll try that.

But online my whole library is visible, just the Word can't find the items again,...
  • as that link says - syncing will work. Just not transferring the files via .rdf export.
  • So even if syncing works I have to transfer the files like the link says? Because also when I sync the data Word can't find the file, and in the middle of adding all citations again it says theres an update problem and nothing works anymore :((
  • no, those are alternatives. Syncing allows you to work on the same document on several computers.
If it doesn't work it might be that the computer you're currently working on isn't synced properly, or that you created a bit of a mess when you tried to re-link items after your .rdf export.
