Oxford Bibliographies Online/conflict with Refworks
I am a librarian with multiple reference managers installed on my PC, including Zotero -- my first choice -- plus I have a Refworks account. Recently I was testing Oxford Bibliographies Online, and I have discovered that Zotero is somehow overriding the other options, such that I cannot export from OBO to Refworks. I took the problem to OBO customer support, and in their view, the problem is caused by Zotero. I quote from their email: "After further investigation and testing by our technical team, it appears that this problem is due to the way that Zotero is working with other content managers. As you say, it does appear to override the settings and attempt to “hijack” all other attempts to download citations in other formats. This is a problem with 3rd party software rather than the site itself, as we have found that the other content management programs do work when the Zotero plug-in is disabled. We ask that you reach out to Zotero for information on how to make the plug-in work with other content managers."
I'm curious whether anyone has seen this problem with other bibliographic databases? I have not, but I certainly haven't tested all the possibilities. I could of course use a different browser when I want to use Refworks, but that's not optimal.
