Compatability between Firefox and SA

Hi, I have tried looking through the forums but haven't had any luck.

I use SA (3.0b2.1) with WinWord plugin (latest version). Some people who I share my document with use ZF.

Some citations seem to have code beginning with {ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION ... and so on. Whereas others begin with just {ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM ... and the citation information.

I don't know how Zotero chooses between these two codes, but wherever there is a "CSL_Citation" reference in the code, when others use ZF, then they get the error message "error updating your document". However, if the citation code doesn't include the "CSL..." then it works perfectly fine.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a setting to ensure I don't get the incompatible citation code?
  • In the Zotero Document Preferences, do you have the "Store references in document" box checked?
  • Thanks Simon. That is exactly the problem.

Worked it out earlier today and came here to update the thread. Thanks for your help anyway.

If you tick "Store references in document" when using SA then it is not possible to use ZF with that document.
It is odd that SA has this feature but SF does not.

To fix this problem, all you have to do it untick this box in the Zotero Document Preferences while using SA.
  • Only Zotero 3.0 beta (both the Firefox version and the standalone version) has this feature. Zotero 2.1.10 does not, and it can't read documents created with it.
