Trouble installing ms word plugin

I can't seem to install the word processor plugin successfully. I've downloaded pythonext and the word for mac plugin 3.1.6. When firefox starts it tries to install the word for mac plugin, and when it fails it says an error occurred and that I need to ensure that ms word is closed before restarting firefox, but it was never open. I'm in os 10.7.2 and Firefox 5.0.1 and Word 2011. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Provide a report ID after re-triggering the error.
  • report ID 2074912422
  • Go to /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011/Office. If there is no folder named "Startup", create one. If there is, go to File->Get Info and give yourself permission to modify it.
  • That did it. Much appreciated!
  • After closer inspection, another problem emerged. When I test out the plugin in word, I can't insert a citation or do anything else. A window pops up that says, "Can't load visual basic for applications" then goes on to say I must make sure it's installed and that the path to the folder doesn't contain characters outside of the system code page or is not longer than 255 characters.
Where's the path to the installation folder?

That's a Word error, not a Zotero error. Presumably the path to the installation folder is /Applications/Microsoft Office 2011, so the length shouldn't be an issue. If you have an accented character in the name of your hard drive, that might be the cause. Otherwise, you'll probably need to reinstall Word (and make sure you install Visual Basic for Applications with it).
