Errors with Zotero Standalone and Firefox

I'm having errors with both Zotero firefox and Zotero standalone - specifically with the Macword integration.

I'm running OSX 10.6, Word 2011 and Firefox 7.0.1.

At first I tried downloading the standalone application to use with Google Chrome, but when I tried to install the Word addon, I get the error:

"Zotero MacWord Integration: Installation could not be completed because an error occurred. Please ensure that Microsoft Word is closed, and then restart Firefox."

I then installed Firefox, the Python plug in, the Zotero 2.1 plug in and the MacWord integration plugin. It works fine right after the install, but whenever I restart Firefox (and open Word), it stops working, and I get the error "Zotero Integration Error: Firefox could not load the component required to communicate with your word processor. Please ensure that the appropriate Firefox extension is installed and try again." When I go to Tools -> Add-on Manager in Firefox, Zotero MacWord Integration 3.1.6 is disabled, and it says "Zotero MacWord Integration is incompatible with Firefox 7.0.1."

Would love to get everything working - especially the standalone application.

    Hello all, and first of all, thank you for this great software.

    I have the exact same problem for me here: it was working perfectly yesterday, and now I have the same automatic deactivation of the plugin by firefox...

    I found the answer on the troubleshooting guide, and it is now working.

    Here is it:

    Communication error

    “Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure Firefox is running and try again.”

    You might experience this error if you have recently upgraded Zotero MacWord Integration and are running Microsoft Word 2008/2011 for Mac on a non-English language system. Close Word and then, in Firefox, go to Tools→Add-ons→Extensions. Click the “Preferences” button next to “Zotero MacWord Integration” and then click “Reinstall Word Components.”


    I actualy run a french version of Word Mac 2011, and it works now fine after closing Word, going in the Extension menu of firefox, clicking in the MacWord Integration 3.1.6 and checking for updates.

    Unfortunately it's still not working for me. I think it's an issue with my copy of Word -- it works fine with Open Office.
