zipped/plain files through webdav?

Hi all,

I know that the prop/zip combination with webdav syncing was adopted to overcome the limitations of some webdav servers [ http://forums.zotero.org/discussion/6381/ ]

However I was wondering whether it would be feasible to have an option to upload on the webdav server a zip file that simply contains the plain original attachment/file (or even upload the file itself) rather than a collection of pieces that can not be processed otherwise than through a Zotero download. It would be indeed nice to have one's library of attached files browsable directly on one's web hosting service. For example, Google Docs can open zip files online. And when I'm on a public computer I may what to read some of the papers from my library without installing Zotero and downloading the full thing...

I see that goes against Zotero File Storage service (which is currently the only way to have one's library items directly browsable over the web) but that would be a great leap forward for many users.

Best regards
  • The filenames are encoded now because of a limitation of Firefox. That limitation was just very recently fixed for Firefox 10, so when that comes out we should be able to switch to unencoded filenames.
