Create a Bibliography: easy right?

OK, perhaps my brains are a bit scrambled by this last hard push to finish my dissertation on deadline, but I thinking I am missing something. I have searched around a bit and pardon me if there are a gazillion threads on this, I just can't seem to figure it out.

I read the zotero document on creating bibliographies here: http://www.zotero.org/support/creating_bibliographies

And it seems to be saying that I need to select the works that I want in the bib from the zotero "dashboard" on firefox, right click, choose style, etc. Does this mean I need to manual weed out the sources I used for the entire bibliography into a separate folder and then create a bib from there? It seems like it is supposed to be simpler than that. When I simply hit the add bibliography I get about four citations in bold and centered in the text.

What in the world am I missing? Or do I need to make a separate group from my library and then construct the bib from there?

I should note I am using an old edition of Word (2000), Zotero 2.1.1, and the 3.1.2 winword integration. I am using this configuration because I ended up having issues with OOo and the plugin.

Any help would be appreciated.

A little embarrassed,

  • You should definitely first update to Zotero 2.1.10, the latest version of 2.1, which brings only bug fixes and no risk of causing issues in your dissertation.

If you have been using the toolbar buttons in Word to enter citations, you'll want to use the toolbar button for "Insert Bibliography". If you're finding that that inserts only a few of the items, it sounds like perhaps you've been dragging-and-dropping your citations into the Word document, rather than using the Insert Citation button. If so, those drag-and-dropped citations won't show up in the generated bibliography-- the whole process needs to be done using the integration buttons.
  • Thanks. Promise it will play nice with Word 2000?
