Not syncing and crashing firefox

When I try and sync my Zotero Library the arrow will spin for a few seconds the will stop. Firefox appears to have locked and then is terminated with a 'Mozzila Crash Reporter' coming up. It is bnot giving me an error code/ID of any kind.

I have restarted firefox and have tried restarting the computer and it is still happening.

HELP PLEASE!
  • I have tried to get an error code so the problem can be dealt with. I have been given report ID: 1009770314
  • Type about:crashes into the Firefox address bar, look for one of the relevant crashes in the list, click on it, and post the Mozilla URL here.
  • I have it open at the moment and the arrow has been spinning continuously for a good few hours. When I hover the mouse over the arrow it says 'processing updated data'.

    thanks
  • There's nothing queued on the server. Restart Firefox and try again, and post here when you do.
  • I have just restarted firefox and clicked to sync again. It has frozen but may come back to life so I'll leave it?
  • Is this the same account you're syncing from? I see no sync activity in the last month.
  • Yes it is the same account. According to the hover over the sync arrow I last synced 24days ago. I have been trying to sync it for over a week now. And it either keeps crashing, which it has been doing while I've been trying to sync to show you now, or the arrow just continually spins.

Something might be wrong with your Firefox installation, then. Try creating a new Firefox profile, installing Zotero into there, temporarily pointing that to your current Zotero data directory in the Advanced pane of the Zotero preferences, and syncing from there.
  • I have just done this. And have pressed to sync. The arrow is just spinning again with the message 'processing updated data'. How long is reasonable to wait for this to actually begin syncing? As i expect it is the same problem again?
    Thanks!

You have no changed data on the server, so it should be instantaneous. Something is wrong on your end, possibly with your network.

If you can get it not to freeze, provide a Report ID and Debug ID for the first minute or so of a sync attempt?
  • Hi Dan,

I have disk cleaned, defraged and restarted numerous times.

I have managed to get a debug ID for when the arrow just continues to spin and says 'processing updated data'.

The debug ID is D1937816162. And just to be sure I have submitted two, the other debug ID is D1233119072.

    Thanks!

You're not doing that right—there's no relevant debug output in there. You need to start the debug output before starting the sync.
  • I am trying really hard to get this output! And it just keeps crashing!

I have a report ID but again it will probably be wrong. 988214357.

I will keep trying and will post agian if i get anything but am really stuck right now!

    Thanks
  • I have got to the stage where i am able to submit to the server and am getting an error message of: "Invalid Response from server"

I think I have managed to save the output from the log. Shall I send this to you in an email?

    Thanks
  • Ok, I have managed to get an ID: D1129109086

    Thanks
  • Just incase I got another one: D829317758.

So hopefully one of these will be correct!

    Thanks,
  • I think I have managed to save the output from the log. Shall I send this to you in an email?
Yes, please send in an e-mail to support@zot....org, with a link to this thread. The other ones don't cover the sync attempt.
