Chicago 15b

I have been using Zotero for many months for personal use, and I love it. However, in the past month I've started a degree program. My school provides EndNote to all students and asks us to use Chicago 15b as our citation style.

I would prefer to not use EndNote and to stick with Zotero. However, I do not know how to use Chicago 15b within Zotero. "Chicago 15b" is not listed within the installed set of citations. Nor could I find it in the on-line Zotero Style Repository.

From a simple Google search, it seems that Chicago 15b is a popular citation style among schools.

How can I use Chicago 15b within Zotero?
  • 15b, as I understand, refers to the author-date style in the 15th edition of the CMoS, which has since been replaced by the 16th edition. Zotero supports Chicago Manual of Style (author-date) as used in the 16th edition, it's pretty close to the old version of the style so I recommend you use that.
  • I have been using CMoS (Author-Date) format within Zotero. At the end of bibliographic entries, it includes the month and day of publication.

    Here's an example:
Bevans, Stephen B., and Roger P. Schroeder. 2004. Constants in Context: A Theology of Mission for Today. Orbis Books, May 12.

I experimented with Chicago 15b within EndNote, and it does not include the publication month and day at the end of bibliographic entries.

This is the kind of thing that I am afraid might cause me problems going forward. My school has settled on a very particular version of CMoS, which they have included within the version of EndNote which they distribute to students. I'm sure that the version of CMos in Zotero is mostly the same as 15b, but it is those small differences (like the one cited above) that make me worry. Some professors can be sticklers for these kinds of things.

Is my only option to manually modify the CMoS (Author-Date) style within Zotero, in order to make it appear just like Chicago 15b? If so, how do I do that?
  • uhg - the date probably shouldn't be there... I'll have a look and fix the style.
But otherwise, yes, modifying the style is your only option.
  • Thanks for your help, Adam.

I took at look at http://www.zotero.org/support/dev/citation_styles. Wow! It sure looks daunting to modify citation styles.

If you are able to remove the month and day from bibliographic entries, would you mind confirming that on a post here.

If this is the only noticeable difference between CMoS in Zotero and Chicago 15b, then that would be good. If my professors start to point out other differences, I will be very disappointed. I *really* want to use Zotero. But, I also have to comply with my school's requirements. I hope I can end up doing both.

    Thanks, again, for your help.
  • yep, will take me a couple of days, but I'll confirm here.
  • ok, that was easy, it's up.
