Group Library-Attachments (URLs) Don't Work

Since the upgrade in the past few weeks, I find when I go to my group library that the attachments/URLs don't work anymore. I can't get to a website or web page. The several citations on the first entry page work fine, but when I click on the group library-nothing works. Do I need to click on something to turn it on, or is it something Zotero is working to correct? Can anyone help?
  • I'm a little unclear on what is working/not for you, but if you're only talking about the website then it looks like this is a bug in the new website library we weren't aware of. It should be fixed later today.
  • Yes, on any one of my 5 group library titles-that first or entry page with the photo attachment has a list (about a dozen) of citations which has attachments/URLs that will link to its website. But, if I click on "Group Library" which lists all of my entries, I can't get to the webpages by clicking the attachments/URLS. I hope I haven't confused you more. I am just wondering if I haven't synchronized everything the way I should or it is an error that Zotero can correct.
  • I can confirm this recent change as well. Links to URLs or attachments function o.k. if I am accessing them through the "Recently Added Items" interface. However, if I attempt to navigate to these same items through a group's full library, links to URLs are missing and links to attachments generate an "Error... Page Not Found" message. Thanks for looking into this.
  • Do you have an example url for a link that gives you a page not found?

url fields will be active links when the next batch of fixes go live and some attachment/download links that were missing have already been added back.
  • Thanks for asking. The group library I am testing seems to only allow attachment downloads when I am logged in which is a separate question I have. However, for illustration on this thread here is a URL that eventually leads to an error page (even if I am logged in):

    https://www.zotero.org/groups/prse/items#items/itemKey/RV7GBNTS?&_suid=964

If I remove the "#items/itemKey" segment, the URL works fine like it used to (but only if I am logged in).
  • File downloads are only allowed when you are logged in and for groups you are a member of. The error there is that the download link is being shown when you are not logged in.

For the latter: is that 'eventually' substantive or cosmetic? Is it still the download link leading to an error, and if so is it when you are logged in with the account that is a member of the group?
    What browser/OS?
  • The download link disappears when I am not logged in, so that should be fine based on the login requirement. (Thanks for the clarification.)

On the second note, here is an example of a link that takes me to an error page (you get there directly or 'eventually' based on which attachment link you choose):

    https://www.zotero.org/undefined/items/QE6NT9FT/file
  • I am using Firefox 3.6.20. I also tested IE 9.0.
  • hows about now?
  • It works great! Thank you very much for your time on this.
  • I have had the exact same problem as noted by previous messages--all of the live links to URLs are no longer live. These include links to items in Google Books, as well as all sorts of web pages. For example, this book in my library:

    http://books.google.com/books?id=1hEOAAAAQAAJ&pg=PA477&dq=Robert+Smith+Complete+Optics&hl=en&ei=nNYETuvPCMm20AHxt5XGCw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=6&ved=0CD8Q6AEwBTge#v=onepage&q&f=false

Previously I could click on this URL and get directly to the source. Now I have to copy the URL and paste it into a different Firefox window to access the book. Same story with all of the links to web pages. It doesn't matter whether I am logged in or not--none of the links work. On the other hand, if I go to my own Zotero input page, I can access these items. So these are no longer available to the public, which was the purpose of setting up the Magic Lantern Research Group in the first place. What has changed?
  • Additional note on previous message--when I copied the example of the URL into the forum message and then the message appeared on my screen, then I can click on the copied URL and it goes directly to the link with no problem. It just doesn't work when I am in the Group Library.
  • Nobody has responded to previous messages about URLs not working--there are no longer any live links in the Group Library--they must be copied and pasted into a new window. Why?
  • Just an oversight. They're coming back.

I am glad they are coming back. I've slowed down entering new citations into my bibliographies the past week waiting to see what happens. I need the live links because my bibliographies are open to the public, and the URLs and attachments are an important part of my work. Also, there is a problem with "Notes". When I click the note on inside the group library, I get the same field that I use on my Zotero browser to type a note. In fact, anyone clicking on a "Note" inside the group library can change it by typing new info into it.
  • Is this the same problem as missing Notes and Attachments from a Group Library on the Zotero website?
