Microsoft Mac 2008 plugin crash + FF 3.6.6 and Zotero 2.1.1

I'm currently using Microsoft 2008 for Mac, with Firefox 3.6.6, Mac OS X 10.5.8 and I just upgraded to Zotero 2.1.1. I have no trouble adding the first citation to my word document, but when I go to add a second, separate citation the plugin causes Firefox to freeze, and the box to choose which citation I want to add does not even show up. I've tried the suggestions of restarting Word and reinstalling Word Components, but haven't had any luck. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling PythonExt (2.6.2) and MacWord Integration (3.1.1) but to no avail.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
  • We haven't seen this in 2.1.1, but the underlying issue should be fixed in the latest Zotero 2.1 branch XPI, although you would want to heed the warning there and back everything up before trying it, and make sure to install Zotero 2.1.2 manually by downloading it from zotero.org once it comes out. You can probably also avoid the crash by setting javascript.options.jit.chrome to false in about:config, or potentially by using a different style.
  • Changing the settings in about:config seems to have fixed the problem. Thanks for your help!
  • Zotero 2.1.2 is now available with a fix for this. You may want to change this setting back, since it will slow Firefox down a little bit.
  • So, I downloaded 2.1.2 and it has actually made the problem worse - now when I try to add a citation the menu doesn't show up and microsoft word freezes.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, and switching back to the about:config settings, but to no luck. Is there something I'm missing?
  • Hello: I am experiencing a similar problem. Word 2004 for Mac crashes whenever I try to use function on the Zotero plugin (edit citation, etc.) I have updated the latest word mac plugin (including python) and am using 30b2.1. Thanks for any help you can give me.

By the way, this is the first time I'm encountering this problem and it happened _before_ I updated to the latest version of Zotero. I already tried re-installing the plugin...
  • paul - does this also occur in a fresh Word document?
  • Thanks for getting back to me. I checked and yes, it does.
