sorting compound surnames

In my bibliography, compound surnames like "van der Werf" are sorted under "W" rather than "V". This is true for all of the reference styles I have tested. How can I sort these names according to the beginning of the compound name? For example, I would like "van der Werf" to be sorted by "van" rather than "Werf".

This can be changed on a per-style basis. Which style would you like to use? (if we can confirm that a style guide requires a different type of sorting, we can change this for all users; otherwise you can use a customized style)

do you have documentation that the Ecoscience style should sort by v for van der Werf?

It does. See the references at http://www.bioone.org/doi/abs/10.2980/16-4-3254 and http://www.bioone.org/doi/abs/10.2980/17-4-3372 (e.g. the Belgium names "De Meester, L." and "De Langhe, J. E." are sorted on "D"). I'll make the change.
