Zotero button disappeared

I have Firefox 6.0.1., and Zotero 2.1.9, Zotero last updated yesterday 4/9/11.
When I opened Firefox today 5/9/11 the Zotero button had disappeared
I rebooted but found the same problem.
I am not at all tech savvy - what do I do?
  • history man - ditto with me. I have FF auto update toggled on and Zotero disappeared - even out of the Extensions list.

Now back with re-install but the data is missing.
  • I tried the zotero help above, with no luck. I don't want to end up like Valiant Skipper and lose 3 year's data
  • It's almost impossible to lose your data (even if you re-install), so no worries.
Do you see Zotero in the extensions menu? Can you open Zotero using ctrl+alt+z? Are you sure your add-on bar is visible?
  • Also, let me add, if you actually have 3 years worth of data and no external back-up you should take this occasion to spend 40$ on a 300GB external HD and do weekly, if not daily or even hourly back-ups of your entire HD.
With the current price of external memory and the ease of sync-type back-up software, not having regular back-ups is pretty much unexcusable.
  • Thanks Adam
With your reassurance about the data I uninstalled and reinstalled, and got Zotero back safe and sound.
I have a mental illness which makes it hard for me to think straight when anything goes wrong
  • glad to hear. But if you're not good at handling crises, that's all the more reason to have a reliable and automated back-up system so you know that no matter what you can never lose more than a day of work or so.
