Problem with Sage Journals Online

This page from Capital & Class: http://0-cnc.sagepub.com.helin.uri.edu/content/2/1.toc has a Highwire 2.0 translator. When importing citations it throws a "Could Not Save Item" error.

    I don't think this is a bug in Zotero. I think the translator on the site is wrong. The error message says to post this information here, which is why I did so.

    There's no "translator on the site". Translators are the components in Zotero that allow it to save from sites. We can't help you unless you provide the information we ask for.

    What other information do you need? The error message only asks for the site and the name of the translator.

    Sorry I didn't understand the architecture. To rephrase: Zotero seems to be using the wrong translator for the site, or the translator can handle individual articles but not the TOC.

    OK. I'll try to follow the instructions lockstep.

    1. I searched the forums and did not find anything about this.
    2. I'm using FF 6.0 and Zotero 2.1.8. The "Report Errors" item is gray.
    3. To reproduce: go to the link in my original post. Click on the translator icon in the address field. Select one of the articles and press "OK."

    I wish I could add more information, but except for #2 there's not much new here.

    BTW. I disabled all my extensions in FF except for Zotero, Zotero Bibliography Locale, Zotero Scholar Citations, and ZoteroQuickLook. The same error occurred.

    The full error message is:

    "Could not save item.

    An Error occurred while saving this item.
    Check known translator issues for more information."

    Disable _all_ other extensions, including Zotero Bibliography Locale, Zotero Scholar Citations, and ZoteroQuickLook. Afaik the former two haven't been updated for a long time and may very well have compatibility issues. Zotero Quick Look likely works, but it's better to be safe.

    It's also highly unlikely that "report error" is gray after you've received the "Could not save item" error.

    OK, Adam. This time I disabled EVERYTHING but Zotero. I got the same error as before. However, I was able to use "Report Error." The error report number is 1806072164. I hope this helps.

    Well, here's the error message:

    Without getting into the JavaScript, I can't tell what's going on. Also, perhaps I should mention I'm getting to the site through my institution's library portal. This way I have authority to view the content of the journal, whereas if I didn't link to it this way our institutional subscription would not be activated.

    OK, I can replicate that now - the translators fails for me when I'm logged in through proxy (like you), but it works when I'm not, i.e. just using

    I remember vaguely that this has come up before and was somewhat erratic and dependent on the precise nature of the proxy, but maybe ajlyon can have a look nevertheless.

    The proxy will probably need to be set up in Zotero, so that Zotero knows how to translate the URLs in the translator into proxied ones. Take a look at http://www.zotero.org/support/proxies and set up your institution's proxy, and try again.

    My proxy is set up correctly - if I click on the plain link above, Zotero's auto proxy redirection correctly takes me to
    http://cnc.sagepub.com.turing.library.northwestern.edu/content/2/1.toc
    I still get the error pattern I describe.

    adamsmith: What's the exact error? What error line? I don't remember where else we ran into this, and I don't have a proxy handy to do testing myself.

    that's with Zotero 2.1.8 - I'll check how this looks with 2.1.10 and 3.0.b2 asap.

    ok, I think I know what's going on - the multiple item view for the old journal editions does not include links to the abstract view, but just to the pdf fulltext view - I figure when you have access to the full text something goes wrong with picking up the RIS.
    The same journal with a more recent edition

    works fine.

    The line number issue is something that Simon fixed in 3.0 (and in 2.1.9+ I think), which helps troubleshooting a lot.

    I'll investigate.

    This is something I can't replicate with my university's subscription. adamsmith: Can you run the version here http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/Highwire 2.0.js and post the debug output as a gist? There must be something different about your output, but I'm working blind.

    Frames are the culprit. A fix should be straightforward, but I may take another day or two to get it ready.

    Please go to http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/Highwire 2.0.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data).

    Try again-- and post debug output if it still doesn't work. I can't test properly, since I'm not seeing frames.

    Glad to hear. I keep spilling hot tea on myself when I try to do that blind, so I'll stick to translator development for now.
