Zotero can't import PubMed references through "local" URL

Hello

Some problems with Zotero and PubMed : in our university, we have to connect to PubMed via a special URL to get the PDF of the articles (it adds "https://acces-distant.upmc.fr" to "normal" PubMed search URL). But when we use this system, Zotero behaves strangely : it only recognises some results on the main results page, and there is no icon at all in the address bar when a single document is displayed.

I think our "special" URL is the cause, but dont know the way to fix it.

Thanks for you help (and forgive my english if necessary!)
  • This is an issue with your university proxy. When you put point your cursor at the address bar icon, what shows up? My guess is that it will say "DOI", which means that Zotero isn't recognizing that you're looking at Pubmed, probably because the proxy is one that Zotero doesn't know how to handle.

Please also post a sample full URL for a Pubmed page, when accessed from your university. If this is a new kind of proxy, it may be possible to add support for it to Zotero.
  • You are right : when I put point my cursor at the adress bar icon, it says "DOI".

The full URL when accessed from our university :
    https://acces-distant.upmc.fr/http/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=thalamas

Instead of the "basic" URL which should be :
    http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=thalamas

How is it possible to add support for this ?

    Thank you for your help!
  • Your university is using a proxy system that Zotero apparently doesn't know about, but maybe we can make this work anyway.

Please go to http://github.com/ajlyon/zotero-bits/raw/master/NCBI PubMed.js and save the file to the translators directory of your Zotero data directory (http://www.zotero.org/support/zotero_data).

Restart Firefox and it should start working again. If this works for you, please post here.
  • I have tried your solution, but unfortunately, it does not work : I still have the "DOI" mention when I move my cursor.

Anyway, I must find another way to fix that : I cannot ask our 10.000 medical students to change their Firefox / Zotero parameters.

Our proxy is Bibliopam : http://www.alixen.fr/biblio_pam.html

Do I have to ask them to do something ? And if so, what exactly ?

    Thank you again

We're not suggesting that. This is just debugging.
  • ajlyon: That wouldn't be a good fix. We don't want to change the target regexp of every translator to account for a particular proxy's URL syntax. It should be possible to fix this via proxy support.
  • Dan: I know -- I just was hoping to confirm that this is just a URL issue. Can you provide Benoist with instructions for working out what we need to support Bibliopam?
  • Sorry if I did not understand the point of this procedure!

The way Zotero works is quite a mystery to me, never got time to look at the way the engine works... But ready to help you in any ways if you need more details!
  • Trying to re-activate this old question, for the problem is still here !

Thank you again for your help !
  • I'm still hoping that Dan can ask the right questions and get the right answers to provide good support for Bibliopam proxies. But there hasn't been any progress-- Zotero doesn't know how to turn the proxy URLs into a standard URL, so it doesn't notice that you're looking at PubMed.
  • Proxy support isn't my department, I'm afraid.
  • Simon, then? I know there was talk by one of you about what you'd need to know about a proxy to get Zotero to detect and save it.
