Different articles show same number in text citation using Vancouver style

Every time I want to cite a extra different article or even a PDF document I get the same number value in the text even after updating citations or synchronising them. Shows fine in the server and even points to the right article when I try to edit it but the numbering is wrong.I am using Vancouver style and too many number to be messing around with.

    If I delete the in text citation number and then add it again it corrects it but further down the line, when I add another citation the problem happens again but in another part of the document.

    are you using the "Show Editor" window in the plugin?

    sometimes I use "Show Editor" window in the plugin to check if the numbering is correct, yes, but I never alter it from there.

    I was wondering if I installed the beta version 3 stand alone it would fix this problem. This has been really counterproductive for me. Especially now in such short deadlines.

    @coisativo: If you leave the Show Editor window open, it will freeze the form of the citation, even if you haven't changed anything. If you close the window after looking, the citation will become dynamic again.

    huh - I had no idea that was the case.

    Hold that thought. I started the multilingual client to check whether I remembered correctly, and found (a) that the editor is not working in multilingual, and (b) that judging from the code, I may have been wrong about the citation freezing when the Show Editor panel is open. More news later ...

    ah! I didn't know I should close the Show Editor window eventhough I don't alter anything there. This might jut be the case. I will go through all my citations, close this window and reply back the result.

    @coisativo: That's great to hear. This behavior seems to be unintended -- it looks like the code is designed to behave as you orignally expected. I'll file a ticket, and we'll see what the core developers think.

    Whoah, I would agree that merely opening the Show Editor should definitely not freeze the citation as if it had been edited. I often use it for preview and I suspect many users do. Do I now have to worry about stray citations left frozen amongst the hundreds of citations in my documents?

    Until it's fixed. It's worked this way for as long as I can remember though, it's not something new.

    For what it's worth, I think I've come up with a fix for this. I've filed a patch with the ticket, we'll see whether it passes review.

    Until it's fixed. It's worked this way for as long as I can remember though, it's not something new.
    All the more troubling. Thing is, you're not going to see it until you change styles, in which case you suddenly can't trust anymre that everything will be converted to the new style.

    Bingo. Simon just applied a superior patch to the trunk (plus a small carryover from the one I submitted). It all seems to be working very well; this issue should be resolved when the patch makes it into a release.
