Is it possible to customize the fields in the right pane?

None of the categories for a new note seem to give me the exact field types that I need. I would like to be able to create a custom categor or type note, doc, etc. that would list only the fields that I will be needing and some custom fields as well.

I'm not as concerned with being able to set up the funcionality for zotero to be able to fill in these fields. That's more of a long-term project on my maybe/someday list.

Any guidance is certainly appreciated as I am new to this software. Also, be warned, I'm typing this at 2 in the morning (first chance I've had to send some correspondence today). So please excuse all the typos and gibberish.

    It would also be nice to be able to add custom fields to the article list box, and be able to type notes in there directly. I'd like to set up an "institution" or "lab" or "PI" field, since seeing the first author or two rarely helps me identify a paper.

    Also, it would be nice to have a way to "star" papers, or mark them as read/unread.
