Need help removing comma after ed or eds. !

Hi,
I need to remove the comma after 'ed' or 'eds.' in: https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles/blob/master/harvard-bournemouth-university.csl

For example:
Otter, C. and Stephenson, K., eds., 2008. Chemical Ideas. 3rd edition. Harlow: Heinemann.

should be

Otter, C. and Stephenson, K., eds. 2008. Chemical Ideas. 3rd edition. Harlow: Heinemann.

If anyone can help me I would appreciate it!
  • Should there be a comma if there is no eds? So
Otter, C. and Stephenson, 2008. Chemical Ideas
Otter, C. and Stephenson. 2008. Chemical Ideas or
Otter, C. and Stephenson 2008. Chemical Ideas
    ?
  • Hi adamsmith,

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes there should be a comma there like so:

    ...and Stephenson, K., 2008. Chemical...

However, if referencing editors there should be no comma after 'ed.' or 'eds.'. I really tried to solve it in the style editor with no luck. Thanks again!
  • but... why? That's a bad (as in: inconsistent) rule. It can be done, but requires a lot of code to work around the inconsistency in the style
  • Hi adamsmith,

I agree it's bad but unfortunately that's what the university requires. Given the amount of code, I'm happy to pay you a small fee to complete it. Let me know if that interests you.
  • Which university? Can you link to the style guide?
  • It's Bournemouth University and the style guide is here:
    https://libguides.bournemouth.ac.uk/ld.php?content_id=33139758

If you use Ctrl+F to find mentions of 'eds.' you'll see that they don't include a comma after. Now that you've mentioned the inconsistency I agree it's terrible.

I'll look into fixing the style.
  • Thank you damnation!
