[Bug][Pdf reader] Annotation get cut off after a few second.

Easiest to view in this video, around second 7: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Gd-Bmh7R223UtNP-76_4BQRpy5aF2cMf/view?usp=sharing

The annotations get cut off after highlighted. I tried to highlight the same sections with different length, but it's always get cut off at the same character.

This also happen to some other annotations, which I haven't found any pattern of why it happen yet.
  • Thanks for reporting. We would need to have a PDF to reproduce the issue. If that's not a problem, please send it to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.
  • Sent an email. The pdf can be found here anywa: https://arxiv.org/abs/2104.13478
  • @lkhphuc I'm still unable to reproduce the issue. Could provide a Debug ID redoing the steps in the video?
  • I just submitted a Debug log with ID: D297629048
I highlight the exact same spot of the same pdf and it got cut of at the exact same character.
  • @lkhphuc Thanks, but still no luck in reproducing the issue. Could you do two things:

    1) Disable all your third-party extensions and then delete and recreate the same highlight again, to see if the issue still appears.
    2) Upload the exact PDF file somewhere (e.g., Dropbox or Google Drive) and send us a link.
  • Hmm. I downloaded the same pdf again and could not reproduce the problem either. Weird. Thank you. I will close this now.
  • @lkhphuc There still exists an anomaly that we are trying to investigate. If you could provide the original file, it would be very helpful.
  • Hi, so this is the anomaly file. I just reimport it to zotero, highlight the same section as in the video (page 28) and the note still disappear. Hope this help.

The only thing I remember I did to this file was using the Export pdf function of zotero, so that I can use zotfile to extract annotations. However I just tried that again on a new file but the cut off problem does not happen.
  • Thanks for the PDF file, but the issue still can't be reproduced. If you have a chance, you could try to test on another computer.

And the third-party extensions don't have any effect on the anomaly file right?
  • Sorry, I might have uploaded the wrong PDF. Check again this one: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HojFb-TqHK6boVnlHLvPebW1t50mgv8V/view?usp=sharing

Whatever I did to the pdf, it's slightly heavier than the original, has no in-text numbering (just from 1,2,3 ..., there is no i, ii page at the beginning).

I tested again with and without any extension, still same problem.
  • Ok, I can reproduce the issue.

It's likely that the PDF file was modified by another program, before it was exported from Zotero (or even before it was added to Zotero the very first time). That modification partially corrupted the PDF file. It would be interesting to know what was that software.
