How to recover lost local library from online library?

Recently my hard drive failed on my desktop and although I had a back-up of my data files, I lost my local Zotero reference library. My online library is intact and I need to recreate the local library on a new computer without access to a back-up copy.

I assume I can do this by syncing with the online library, but previous experience with other software makes me wary as I am worried that the synchronisation will work the other way (i.e. from local to online, deleting the online files).

Can someone please advise me of the steps I need to follow to reinstate my local library on a new (Windows) laptop from my online library?

Many thanks
  • Yes, you can just sync.
  • Thanks for the quick reply - sorry to ask, but could you please tell me what steps to take to get this right?

You just need to set up syncing from the preferences and sync. There's no other answer here. It's no different from starting to use Zotero on any new computer. Zotero isn't going to delete your online data just because you're using a new computer.
