Issue syncing group libraries

edited January 21, 2021
I am trying to troubleshoot an issue with a group library that is not syncing correctly. Only some of the sources are shared with the other members of the group (it is a private group). No one who is a member in the group has gone over their storage limit (no one has attached PDFs). Some of the folders have synced properly and some have not. The group library is included in the data syncing preferences.

There is a sync error message showing because some of the sources have imported author names incorrectly and they are too long. However, these sources are not in the folders needing to sync. They are in a different group library altogether. Would this error cause the sync to stop altogether? Is there a way to have Zotero overlook this error so the library can be synced correctly?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help.

Only some of the sources are shared with the other members of the group (it is a private group).
Not sure what you mean by this. Are you saying this is the problem? And by "shared" you mean "synced"? You can't change what's "shared" in a group. The type of group has no relevance.
No one who is a member in the group has gone over their storage limit (no one has attached PDFs).
That's irrelevant. Group storage counts against the group owner's quota, and it's only relevant to files anyway, not data.
Some of the folders have synced properly and some have not.
    See Changes Not Syncing.
There is a sync error message showing because some of the sources have imported author names incorrectly and they are too long.
The message means what it says — those items should be corrected. While generally other data should sync, particularly data in other libraries, if you're having a syncing problem and getting a sync error, that's the thing to resolve first.
  • I'm not sure what you mean by that, but that's not how Zotero groups work.
--> I mean that some folders in the group library have synced and some haven't at all.

The message means what it says — those items should be corrected. While generally other data should sync, particularly data in other libraries, if you're having a syncing problem and getting a sync error, that's the thing to resolve first.

--> OK, thanks. Just wanted to check because the error applied to a lot of sources and it will take a long time to resolve.

The error would only apply to a single item at once. If you know for other reasons that you have a lot of affected items, where did they come from?

If Zotero imported names wrong from a site, we'd want an example URL so we could see if we can fix the translator. If they came from an imported file, there's nothing we can do about that, though you can try to correct the export in another program or correct the exported file in a text editor and reimport — we may be able to advise further if you provide details.
