If I upgrade to unlimited, will listed items retrieve the pdfs?

Currently we have lots of metadata recognized and listed in Zotero, but the pdfs did not attach (I think because we are over our limit). If we upgrade to unlimited storage, will the metadata automatically pull the pdfs into Zotero? Or will they need to be attached manually? Thanks for any pointers.

Attaching PDFs is unrelated to your storage. Local storage is always unlimited and that's where PDF are retrieved. Unlimited storage only affects whether they sync to the server and between different machines.

So upgrading storage will not do anything with PDFs automatically (nor did the lack of storage have anything to do with them not attaching). Independently of storage, you can try using right-click -->Find PDF on items. That'll work best when you're on a network directly authenticated to retrieve paywalled PDFs (like on your university campus or connected with a genuine VPN to said campus), but again, this will work entirely independently from any storage subscription you have (or don't have) with Zotero.
