Error Message, "A copy of Zotero is already open. Only one copy of Zotero can be open at a time"

Whenever I try to open the Zotero application on my computer, the following error message pops up and says "Close Zotero: A copy of Zotero is already open. Only one copy of Zotero can be open at a time." I have deleted the Zotero app several times from my computer and re-downloaded it from the website. I can only access my Zotero notes online and not on the app on my computer. Can someone please help me fix this issue.
