Zotero for firefox on mac

Good day,
apologies if this has been dealt with, but when I try to install the firefox connector on my mac, it tells me that mac does not have a utility to open .xpi files and is not giving me the option to install the file.

Can anyone help?

You need to actually be running Firefox on your computer, and then just clicking the connector download button on the download page will prompt you to install it.

If you have an XPI file on disk you likely downloaded it from some other browser.
