I have the same problem. Zotero is stuck on a very needy regular expression search that is selected every time I start Zotero.
I tried to edit the prefs.js file, but it doesnt seems to contain a "lastViewedFolder" line.

Let's back up. What's the exact problem you're experiencing?
If you're only seeing "Loading items…" in the middle pane, please provide a
Debug ID
for Zotero startup, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option.
