Zotero References not showing up in my library

I am new to Zotero. I downloaded the application and when I try to share my references to a group, it forces me to login into my account on a web browser. When I login, it says my library is empty. Why is this? This is the correct email and password associated to the new application I downloaded.
  • You need to set up syncing for your data to appear in your online library.

    But note that you only need to log in via your web browser to create a group and invite other members. After that you can and should do everything via the Zotero app on your computer.
