Changing citation style from an author-date one to note-based one

Hey guys.

I am using ABNT style which is Brazilian norm. It has actually two styles, one that is autor-date and another which is note based. I have to switch from the first to the later, but while the style actually changes, it does so in the text itself, not on footnotes. Is there a way to solve this without manualy adding new cites?
