How to index PDFs and notes online

I am using Zotero on multiple computers. When opening Zotero on any of those computers, I would like to be able to access all my PDFs and notes. Obviously, if possible, I'd like to avoid paying for that online storage (I know Zotero itself offers the option).
How can I do that?

Notes are synced for free, as is the full text index of PDFs that zotero uses for its full text search. For syncing the PDF files themselves, you can either use Zotero storage (easiest, and then also accessible using the zotero.org web library) or using a WebDAV cloud service (a list of services that have been reported to work is here: https://zotero.org/support/kB/webdav_services).

Note that for technical reasons, Group libraries can only store files with Zotero storage.
