"Zotero experienced an error updating your document. citation is undefined"

I am unable to insert new citations. When trying, I get a notification saying "Zotero experienced an error updating your document. citation is undefined". I checked and my zotero is up to date, version 5.0.55.

    Is that also the case in a new document, or only in an existing one? Which word processor and version?
