Word cannot communicate with Zotero

I am having an issue using Zotero with Microsoft Work 2016. I had previously used Zotero with Firefox, I now have the Zotero extension on Chrome. I successfully added the add-in for Zotero onto word, and I have the extension on Chrome, however when I try to insert a citation I get the alert "Word could not communicate with Zotero. Please ensure that Firefox is open and try again." Opening Firefox does not fix the problem (and I no longer use Firefox).

Is there something in settings I can do to correct this?

You need to install Zotero proper from zotero.org/download -- it's standalone software, running outside your browser and it needs to run while you're inserting citations.

The error message is outdated -- I'm a little puzzled you're still getting it -- it should say "Zotero" not "Firefox"

I have standalone Zotero software so I'm also perplexed as to why this is happening!
