Zotero 5.0 not running on Fedora 28

I'm having a lot of trouble getting started with Zotero 5.0. I'm running a freshly upgraded Fedora 28 with everything up-to-date. When I run it in the command line, nothing happens - just a pause of a few seconds, then back to the command line.

I've tried a bunch of things from what I've seen in other threads:

./zotero
./zotero --profile [profile path]
./zotero -ZoteroDebug
./zotero -ZoteroDebugText (these all give no output or dialogs, straight back to the command line)

./zotero --ProfileManager (gets me a profile selection dialog, I choose something, then it just drops me back to the command line)

Permissions are all me, so I don't think that's the problem.

Any suggestions what the problem might be? Or other things I can try to find out why it is not working?

I got some help locally and a fresh install in a new location has done the trick. I still don't know why, but it's working now.
