Edit existing (child) note?

Hi all, new user here.

In the desktop application (mac), I've created a couple of child notes and, after moving on to other tasks, can't seem to come back and edit the notes without first clicking the "Edit in a separate window" button. All formatting options are grayed out at the top of the note box.

Is there anyway to just continue editing without having to open a separate window?

No need to reply—appears to have been a glitch. I quit the application and reopened and the problem is resolved.
