First-time sync on new install; sync is hanging (constant spinning)

Zotero version: 4.0.29.22
I installed Zotero on a new computer, and I need to sync with my online Zotero account. However, the sync has been hanging for several minutes (the green arrow is still spinning). I only have ~50 references in total, so this should not be a size issue.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Install Zotero on new machine (I'm using Win7, Firefox 52.3.0 (32-bit))
2. From Tools > Add-Ons > Zotero > Options, enter username and password for Zotero cloud library service
3. Sync with Zotero server

bwiernikedited August 23, 2017First start by upgrading to Zotero 5.0 from the Zotero home page, which has much improved syncing features.

jonaitisThanks for your response. I looked into the new version, as you suggested; however, it looks like the third-party extensions I rely on for citations in RStudio are not yet fully developed for Zotero 5.0, so I'm not able to upgrade at this time. The good news is that my syncing did finally complete and everything is working now (so people who have the same error that I did: don't fret). It just took a surprisingly long time (15 or 20 minutes for 50 references).
