[5.0 beta] CPU running amok

Right now Zotero 5.0-beta.169+dd921f3 (Mac) is using 109% cpu. I am doing nothing, I have disabled sync.

Zutillo + ODF/RTF scan (beta) extensions installed.

Here is a log:

And a process dump:

  • Dan will presumably take a look at the log&dump, but I'm curious: is this a recurring issue or a one-time event?
  • I have experienced this high cpu usage only once, at that level. I just disabled extensions and restarted the app and now it is using about 3-5% cpu in the background, which is not very low (on this 2015 13" MBP), but acceptable.
  • I think part of the reason you're getting some level of constant CPU may be related to the failure to sync that shows in the debug, but not sure about that. I'll let Dan comment with more authority.
  • Yes. I tried disabling sync to see if that would stop it, no luck.
  • Note that disabling auto-sync doesn't stop an active sync. The debug output you posted, at least, shows an active sync in progress — with errors occurring — so that would explain the high CPU usage.

I get 2-4% in the background as well. We'll see if there's anything we can do to reduce that.
  • Yeah, so I don't think there's really anything we can do currently to reduce the baseline usage, which on my system is comparable to both Firefox and Chrome with no active tabs (2-3% on a 2013 13" MBP). Zotero is based on Firefox, so it makes sense that it would show similar numbers. We're planning to migrate Zotero to a new architecture in the medium-term, and that will hopefully bring some improvements in this area.
