Journal of Wildlife Management error

Hello,
The current version of JWM's style on Zotero does not do the following:
"If citations in a series have >1 reference for the same author(s) in the same year, designate the years alphabetically (in italics) and separate citations with semicolons; e.g., (Peek et al. 1968a, b; Hanson 1981; White 1985, 1986). If citations have >1 reference for the same author in different years, designate the years chronologically after the author’s name (e.g., Andrews 2001, 2005; Chamberlain 2002; Foster 2006)."

The issue is that Zotero currently does not use semicolons, only commas. Could this be fixed please?

The documentation can be found here:
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/journal/10.1002/(ISSN)1937-2817/homepage/ForAuthors.html under the Manuscript Submission Guidelines.

Thank you,
-Bill
  • Hello,
It appears this issue remains. Could this be fixed, please?

    Thank you,
    -Bill
  • I think it is fixed. For example here is my output for testing purposes:
    (Ansorge 2007, 2013a, b; Ansorge and Beránková 2017)
    (Ansorge 2016; Hoekstra 2016)
    What is wrong?
  • Hmmm, that is odd. I tried reinstalling the citation style, but I still get this output:

(Fritts and Mech 1981, Severud et al. 2015b, a)
  • which version of Zotero are you on? This could just be a (hopefully old) but in the citation processor; the more complex citation delimiters are among the more fragile parts of that.

I was on 4.0.29.17, but just updated to 5.0. The issue remains. Would you recommend I revert to an older version?
  • Would you recommend I revert to an older version?
    No.
In the first step try to change the style to another else and then back.
If this not solves the problem then try to reset styles: Zotero Preference - Advance - tab Files and Folders - button Reset Styles...
  • Having quickly looked at the style, I don't see why this is correct for LiborA; there's no sign of semicolon delimiters there. Give me some time to look into this.
  • Thank you for your help, both of you. I tried changing to another style and then back. That did not solve the problem. I then tried resetting my styles. Still no luck. Thank you for the suggestions, LiborA. And thank you, adamsmith for looking into this further.

Interesting, I try it again and my testing output seems incorrect:
    (Ansorge 2011, 2013a, b, Hoekstra 2016)
    (Ansorge 2013a, Hoekstra 2016)

    But try this edited version:
    https://gist.githubusercontent.com/libora/d314753a7fdd2164f5f9b8cb9b2c9e0d/raw/67f514907ed4f9d3fa13d2ec296bb3cac99eb1e8/the-journal-of-wildlife-management.csl

The output from edited style looks like:
    (Hoekstra and Chapagain 2008; Ansorge 2011, 2013a, b, 2016, Hoekstra 2016, 2017)
    (Ansorge 2013a; Hoekstra 2016)

    Unfortunately, the example:
    Ansorge 2011, 2013a, b, 2016, Hoekstra 2016, 2017
is still incorrect, due to two collapsed authors behind each other. If I use no collapsed authors, then the output is correct:
    Ansorge 2011, 2013a, b, 2016; Chen and Chau 2016; Hoekstra 2016, 2017
    Ansorge 2011, 2013a, b, 2016; Hoekstra 2016
@fbennett it seems as the processor does not distinguish between two collapsed groups
