Insectes Sociaux Citation Style incorrect

Hi,

I am using the Zotero citation style for the journal Insectes Sociaux and discovered that the formatting is incorrect.

It appears that Ins. Soc. recently changed some of its style.

First, in-text citation no longer use any punctuation within the author name only the semi-colon in used for separating lists of authors.

Here's how Zotero currently formats in-text citations:
(Tamura et al., 2013)
(Dlugosch and Parker, 2008)
(Suarez et al., 1999; Tsutsui and Case, 2001; Corin et al., 2007; Thomas, 2010)

Here's how it should be:
(Tamura et al. 2013)
(Dlugosch and Parker 2008)
(Suarez et al. 1999; Tsutsui and Case 2001; Corin et al. 2007; Thomas 2010)
Negotiation research spans many disciplines (Thompson 1990).
This result was later contradicted by Becker and Seligman (1996).
This effect has been widely studied (Abbott 1991; Barakat et al. 1995a, b; Kelso and Smith 1998; Medvec et al. 1999, 2000).

Secondly, the formatting of the bibliography has also changed:

Here's how Zotero currently formats the bibliography:
Tsutsui, N.D., Suarez, A.V., Holway, D.A., and Case, T.J. 2000. Reduced genetic variation and the success of an invasive species. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. 97: 5948–5953

Here's how the journal requires it:
Journal article
Gamelin FX, Baquet G, Berthoin S, Thevenet D, Nourry C, Nottin S, Bosquet L (2009) Effect of high intensity intermittent training on heart rate variability in prepubescent children. Eur J Appl Physiol 105:731-738. doi: 10.1007/s00421-008-0955-8
Ideally, the names of all authors should be provided, but the usage of “et al” in long author lists will also be accepted:
Smith J, Jones M Jr, Houghton L et al (1999) Future of health insurance. N Engl J Med 965:325–329
Article by DOI
Slifka MK, Whitton JL (2000) Clinical implications of dysregulated cytokine production. J Mol Med. doi:10.1007/s001090000086

Book chapter

There are several mistakes:
1) There should be no commas or periods within author names, only commas are used the separate multiple authors even if there are just two authors.
2) The dash between page numbers should be a - not a – and there should be no space between the the colon and the page numbers.
3) The journal should no longer be in italics and the journal issue is no longer in bold.
4) The year should be in parentheses with not punctuation before or after.

Here's a link to the journal with detailed instructions: http://www.springer.com/life+sciences/entomology/journal/40

Also here's a link to a recently published open access paper that reflects the current style: http://download.springer.com/static/pdf/422/art%253A10.1007%252Fs00040-015-0447-x.pdf?originUrl=http%3A%2F%2Flink.springer.com%2Farticle%2F10.1007%2Fs00040-015-0447-x&token2=exp=1455200311~acl=%2Fstatic%2Fpdf%2F422%2Fart%25253A10.1007%25252Fs00040-015-0447-x.pdf%3ForiginUrl%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Flink.springer.com%252Farticle%252F10.1007%252Fs00040-015-0447-x*~hmac=1d086f3dd3cc44145ae3792cc63ffff740e0fe7decaaaf6e925b1762a7bf5e21

Please, let me know how to manually make these formatting changes or if they can be corrected on Zotero's part.

Sincerely,
Magdalena
  • that's this style, I believe:
    https://www.zotero.org/styles?q=Springer Basic (author-date)
@zuphilip -- can you check if that's on your updated list already?
  • It is listed as "Basic, Nonstandard", and therefore claims to have a nonstandard format for in-text citations. But maybe this is not true?
  • the in-text citations are just like the basic author-date style, nothing nonstandard about them. Maybe that's still referring to the old format.
  • Thank you for the quick response, indeed, the author-date style seems to match except for one thing:

-) The dash between page numbers should be a - not a –
  • it's an en-dash in published articles and it _should_ be an en-dash. We'll leave that as is. They're likely just sloppy in their online instructions.
  • You might be right, I also checked a recently published paper in the journal and they indeed used the en-dash and not the hyphen as in the instructions for authors. I'll chance it and leave the en-dash. Thank you for your help with this!
