error updating document - Spanish language characters

I keep getting error messages when I try to cite authors (or texts) with Spanish or Dutch language characters. The exact message I get is

[zoteroWinWordIntergration Exception..."The range cannot be deleted." code:"0" function:"zoteroWinWordField::SetText" location: ".\zoteroWinWordField.cpp"]

This is for my dissertation work. Please help!

which Zotero and Word versions?

It's with Zotero Stand Alone 3.0.7 and I am using Word 2013.

If you're actually using Standalone 3.0.7, you're using a version that's several years old (about 3 1/2). Update to 4.0.28.7, the current version. You can update simply by installing the new version from zotero.org/download
