nitpick about Genome Biology .csl

It seems that the Genome Biology .csl puts a colon after the authors, as does the BMC style. However, the Genome Biology site specificies a period there (and that's what published articles seem to be using.)

I hacked the .csl to do this, but others might want to do the same.
I can provide the hacked file, but it's probably just as simple for whoever's maintaining this to alter it.

  • Thank you for the information. Yes, it seems that Genome Biology is not anymore using BMC style. However, it looks that they are using now this style https://www.zotero.org/styles/?q=Springer Vancouver (brackets) . Does this look correct?
  • I assume that puts the citations in numbered brackets (e.g. [1]),
which is what I've seen most recently.

There still may be minor differences; I think titles are hi-lit in Genome Biology. However, this may be closer (and may be close enough,
    although I don't really know.)

As I said, the only change I made to the existing GB .csl was changing the ':' after the authors to a '.' . If you'd like to use that template, let me know, and I can e-mail it.
  • thanks -- where styles are identical, we like to link them, which saves us work in maintenance.
The GB page does link to the Springer Vancouver template for Endnote, so I'd strongly suspect the two are the same, but I'll take a closer look before making that change.
  • Yeah, that was the reason I was suggesting that Springer Vancouver might be the new style here. I checked yesterday some articles and the style guide: I haven't found any sepcial formatted (bold, italics) elements. The order of elements and interpunctations between look at first glance okay. However, I see a lot of terms like "[Internet]" in the examples of Springer Vancouver CSL style, which I didn't found in the journal publications (but maybe they were not citing it as an online article?). That was my first impression. However, it would be good if that can be checked again, adamsmith.
  • Hi all,

I am an author and I can confirm that the genome biology.csl (which is currently linked to Springer Vancouver brackets csl) does not adhere to the style guide listed here https://genomebiology.biomedcentral.com/submission-guidelines/preparing-your-manuscript/research.

As mentioned by zuphilip above, the "[internet]" terms when records have a DOI or website variable are not according to style requirements. Also, publisher name is given after journal titles (I wonder if any style guide actually requires this?). See example below:

    88. Gnerre S, Maccallum I, Przybylski D, Ribeiro FJ, Burton JN, Walker BJ, et al. High-quality draft assemblies of mammalian genomes from massively parallel sequence data. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S. A. [Internet]. National Acad Sciences; 2011;108:1513–8. Available from: http://dx.doi.org/10.1073/pnas.1017351108

    Which I think should be:
    88. Gnerre S, Maccallum I, Przybylski D, Ribeiro FJ, Burton JN, Walker BJ, et al. High-quality draft assemblies of mammalian genomes from massively parallel sequence data. Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U. S. A. 2011;108:1513–8.

There may be more issues with other document types - I did not check.
  • @damnation, could you please take a look at @robin.vanvelzen 's request?
