Importing collection from Mendeley copies all pdfs to Zotero default folder

After being frustrated with Mendeley, I decided to move to Zotero.
I have exported my collection in Mendeley according to Adam's post here: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/28786/mendeley-import/#Item_2 and corrected the folder path according to this post: https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/28347/unable-to-get-pdfs-stored-on-computer-into-zotero-standalone/#Item_9

The items are imported i Zotero properly, just that the attached PDF files are copied to the default zotero folder.

I'd like to keep the pdf files in their original folder and just have them LINKED to the zotero entries.

I know when creating an entry manually, by dragging and dropiing the pdf while holding the ctrl+shift it will creat a link to the file rather than copying it.

I have a huge library, and cannot do this manually.

Can some one advise me how to import my huge library from mendeley to zotero, while all having all pdf files properly LINKED ?

Thanks
  • I'm sorry to say that's not possible, though it's long been planned: https://github.com/zotero/zotero/issues/329 (that's a development tracker, so please don't comment there unless you're interested in helping develop that feature). I have no ETA for this, it's very much possible that it'll still take quite some time to implement.

The best I can offer is to use www.zotfile.com to turn files imported into Zotero back into linked files.
