Automatic tags import even when preferences set to stop this

I have just exported >2000 articles from EMBASE to Zotero and all of the automatic tags have come across with them, despite unchecking the 'Automatically tag items with keywords and subject headings' option in Preferences prior to export. Is there an option to delete all automatic tags once they are in the program?

I'm running Zotero standalone on a MacBook Pro with OSX Yosemite 10.10.2.

How exactly did you do that? I'm guessing that by exporting the metadata to something like RIS or BibTeX fomat? In that case, imported tags are not considered automatic. Only tags that are imported from websites using the URL bar icon are considered automatic.

Unfortunately, there's no easy way to remove tags from multiple items. The best option is a bit involved https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/client_coding/javascript_api#batch_editing

This feature could be a good addition to Zutilo add-on until Zotero gains batch editing functionality. Feature request created here: https://github.com/willsALMANJ/Zutilo/issues/36
